St. Martin’s Killara Centenary Photographic Collection

Rev Canon Raymond King MA
Foundation Rector of St Martin's
1911-1914
Rev King was the Rector of St John the Evangelist at Gordon from 1893-1922.
During his time there he oversaw the establishment of St Martin's in 1909, as well as many other young churches. Although the care of these churches was undertaken by his Curates he was very involved with all aspects of his large parish.
Rev Leopold Charlton was appointed a curate to Rev King at St John's Gordon in 1909 and soon established particular links with Killara. In July 1915 when Killara was made a conventional district Rev Charlton was appointed curate in charge.
In 1918 Killara was declared a full Parish in its own right and the Rev Charlton changed his status from Curate to Rector. He retired in 1953 having served St Martin's for forty three years – from 1910-1953.
